About Me

As a therapist, I am often asked “Isn’t it hard to listen to peoples’ problems?”. Because I can see therapy making a difference in the lives of my clients, the work is endlessly rewarding - When I hear “I feel better now” or “Hmm, I never thought of that”, or when, usually by the 4th or 5th session, clients enter with an increased confidence and positive change. It amazes me to see a sense of relief and love on the faces of couples when I ask how they met and what they found each other. The pricelessness of a teenaged client holding up her head, and speaking to me while looking in my eyes for the first time after so many sessions. The examples are abundant!

I came into psychotherapy as an English Language Teacher in my home country of Turkey. Teaching gave me a sense of empathy and curiosity, as I had to listen intently to my students in order to help them. I felt a desire to offer this help in a more systematic way.

When I moved to Canada, I started training in psychotherapy, and the more I learned the more I loved it. I received several post secondary qualifications, with a Masters degree in Theological Studies, along with Clinical Pastoral Education in Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy in hospital settings. Now, I integrate spirituality and faith in my private practice, when it is an applicable case for a client. All with a non-judgemental and accepting stance.

I completed my Masters program in Counseling Psychology in 2020. As I began my practice, the feedback from clients has affirmed in me that I have found my purpose.

Psychotherapy has helped me heal myself. It has changed my way of looking at things by removing judgements and biases, which are the biggest barriers to understanding. It has taught me how to listen to people, and respond to their problems. It has helped me in my marriage of 20 years.

Living in a multicultural society and being in a cross-cultural marriage (Turkish-Italian) has given me a great deal of experience with people from different backgrounds. Thus, I can see the common ground in humanity, and I have developed a deep sense of empathy and compassion. I will consider myself blessed if I touch someone's life and help them find ways to make positive changes.
